The Dehesa de los Canónigos riverside winery has just received the Ecological Viticulture Certificate for its 60 Ha. of vineyard, reaffirming the commitment of the Sanz Cid Family with quality, environmental sustainability and the preservation of the estate’s ecosystems.
Although respectful viticulture has always been carried out since the foundation of the winery more than 30 years ago, three years ago they decided to start the process to obtain the ecological certificate for their entire vineyard.
Dehesa de los Canónigos is located in an optimal environment for the practice of organic farming, since the farm has a great environmental value: it has an important 200-hectare pine forest. stone pine, among other species, with trees over 140 years old, full of fauna that contributes to the natural control of certain pests. This forest mass also contributes to reducing the carbon footprint thanks to the sink effect – a process by which forest masses absorb carbon dioxide.
In addition, the climate of the Ribera del Duero, characterized by long winters, dry and hot summers, with a wide temperature range, is a favorable factor for organic production.
Ecotourism linked to wine tourism
Dehesa de los Canónigos is making a strong commitment to enhancing the value of the environment through wine tourism. Currently, the visitor has the opportunity to travel along the G-14 path between the Monastery of Valbuena (San Bernardo) and the winery itself by electric bike, to end with the visit ‘Camino a Solideo’.
